No. 1 | Acclimating to Horizontal Movement
Tuesday, April 28, 2015
Duration: 6 hours
Inside a 120-foot long carpet, I engage in an action of rolling and unrolling across the length of the gallery floor. As a result, visitors to the ICA are challenged to move throughout the gallery in surprising ways. I emerge from the carpet nude in the final moments of the day. I dress my body in a garment printed with an image of the water that is viewable from the gallery (a form of environmental camouflage). Once clothed, I face the horizon line and extend my arm across the glass, a gesture that both ends the day and introduces the second action, No. 2 | Investigations in Wandering that will occur one week later.
