Wade
wade
verb
to walk with effort through any substance, as water, mud, snow, sand, tall grass, etc. that offers resistance
Wade, a collaborative art piece by Sandrine Schaefer and Jeremy R. Brooks, fuses assisted readymades with performative elements to call attention to the queerness of everyday objects and actions. Through satire, wordplay, and sexual innuendo, Jeremy alters found objects to create artworks that court curiosity and blur functionality. Exploring the goose as a queer figure, Sandrine’s site-sensitive performances use long duration and subtle action to reimagine ways for humans to be in relationship with other-than-human worlds. In Wade, Sandrine and Jeremy combine their approaches to circumvent the functionality of objects and optical instruments, while celebrating queer identity and interspecies friendship.
