In Molt No. 1 recordings of the sound of a gaggle of geese foraging during molting season are embedded inside a wax sculpture. The wax is cast from a mold of a decoy used for hunting waterfowl. Wax, like the decoy, is a material of imitation. Yet unlike the rigidity of the plastic decoy, wax remains vulnerable to its surroundings. It softens with heat, accumulates marks, and changes through touch. By translating decoys into wax, objects designed to manipulate other animals are transformed into objects altered through encounter, foregrounding vulnerability rather than control.
